Welcome to Awakenings

Life IS history in the making. Every word we say, everything we do becomes history the moment it is said or done. Life void of memories leaves nothing but emptiness. For those who might consider history boring, think again: It is who we are, what we do and why we are here. We are certainly individuals in our thoughts and deeds but we all germinated from seeds planted long, long ago.

July is...

...jam packed with celebration! Of course, at the top of the list is the 4th of July - America's Independence Day! But, that is by no means the beginning and end of the list.

Up for grabs during July...

Blueberries, YUM! What a versatile fruit, delicious and good for you, too! Not surprising if you have been following Awakenings is the fact we have already celebrated blueberries. A step back in time took us to March 15, 1820 when Maine became the 23rd state in the union (the larger blueberry producer of the world). The following month brought on Pie! Pie! Pie! (National Blueberry Pie Day) on April 28th with Sweet Americana (Blueberry Cheesecake Day) topping the list of celebrations on May 26th.

It's summer...how can anyone possibly be bored?!. Boredom can creep in at any moment in time, unsuspectingly even within the busy-ness of the day or night. This month battle the boredom syndrome by NOT letting despair or depression mask its way into your psyche. Stay active, be creative, do something new - anything, read a genre upon which you have never turned a page, break your normal routine.
 Unlucky Month for Weddings

Is July Really an Unlucky Month to Marry? That one is debatable for I can personally attest to it! On July 10, 2014, my husband and I will celebrate 30 years of marriage. A bed of roses? SURE! Lie upon a bed of roses and see what happens. Along with the soft, velvety petals of the rose are many prickly thorns. For me, life IS a bed of roses ... I thank my mom and dad every day for preparing me for life’s many thorns and instilling in me the importance of perseverance. What about you?
National Cell Phone Courtesy Month

This one is put in RED and definitely needs to be highlighted! Cell phones have become a intricate part of daily survival. BUT, courteous use of the device has somehow been tossed to the wind, flushed down the toilet, thrown out the window! The so-called etiquette-expert is on to something here for there are right and wrong ways/times to use the cell phone. Not only take personal note of this day but encourage others to do the same. What's so bad about being courteous?!.
 National Hot Dog Month

With July boasting our nation's independence with mega celebrations on the 4th of July, it is no wonder July is National Hot Dog Month! Hot dogs are one of our American Classics! Chow down any time this month. especially on the Fourth of July, but not without first checking out a little Hot Dog History!
Last but in no way the least is... (drum roll, please):

With it being summertime, what better treat to cool the summer heat than ice cream! More than likely you can reflect back on your childhood days and remember the scream for ice cream! I know I surely can. Even with our own kids the sound of the ice cream truck coming down the street brought on giggles, laughter and scampering to see who could get there first! By the way, there are twelve days during the year when ice cream is celebrated - even in the wintertime! Now that's an ADDED BONUS! (Click the link!)

Happy 4th of July week, my friends!
